Blue Carpet Corridor: Route 66 Scavenger Hunt

-Your passport can be stamped at the Ariston Cafe (413 Historic Old Route 66 North) from 4:00 PM-9:00 PM on Saturday, June 9 and from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 10. 
-If you cannot make it to the Ariston Cafe from 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM on Saturday, June 9, you can stop by the Litchfield Museum & Route 66 Welcome Center (334 Historic Old Route 66 North) for last year’s stamp. The Museum hours are 10 AM to 4 PM.

In honor of Litchfield’s placement on two historic alignments of Route 66 (1930-1940 and 1940-1977) Litchfield proudly joins the 2017 Blue Carpet Corridor Route 66 scavenger hunt. Cities from Collinsville to Auburn will be participating in a weekend full of events. Here is what is happening in Litchfield and how you can join in the fun!

During this two day Route 66 scavenger hunt, visitors will stamp their passports in all cities from Auburn to Collinsville, IL. Come stamp your passport at the Ariston Cafe, the oldest continuously operated restaurant on Route 66, and then spend the night at one of our six hotels in Litchfield.

Your passport can be stamped at the Ariston Cafe from 4:00 PM-9:00 PM on Saturday, June 9 and from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 10.

The Ariston Cafe is located at 413 Historic Old Route 66 North.

If you cannot make it to the Ariston Cafe from 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM on Saturday, June 9, you can stop by the Litchfield Museum & Route 66 Welcome Center (334 Historic Old Route 66 North) for last year’s stamp. The Museum hours are 10 AM to 4 PM.

Litchfield’s Place on Route 66
Nestled on I-55 between Springfield, IL and St. Louis, MO, lies the quaint town of Litchfield, IL. While you are traveling the Mother Road you do not want to miss the opportunity to stop here!!! Grab a doughnut at Jubelt’s Bakery & Restaurant, which has provided tasty treats to Mother Road visitors since 1922 or have a delicious meal at the Ariston Café, one of the oldest restaurants along Route 66. When your appetite is satisfied, walk across the street and immerse yourself in Route 66 and local history at the Litchfield Museum & Route 66 Welcome Center. If you are one who cruises Mother Road on your motorcycle do not neglect to make a pit stop at Niehaus Cycle Sales just down the road. From there, grab your binoculars as well as your camera and head 2 miles West to Lake Lou Yaeger. There you will be engulfed by the picturesque scene of a 1400 acre Lake complete with picnic areas, nature trails, and plenty of opportunities to gaze upon the beauty of your surroundings. Perhaps you even have the chance to spot a blue heron or a bald eagle! As dusk approaches head back to the Mother Road and experience a true Drive-In movie at the Litchfield Skyview Drive-In, the oldest continuously operated Drive-In on Route 66. Do not worry, if you are not able to make a movie, stop when you can and view the Roadside exhibit. Make sure you take a picture of yourself with the giant screen behind you. With all of these fantastic sites, plus six hotels for your convenience, Litchfield is a must see destination along your Route 66 journey!
