About Boating Safely Class at Lake Lou Yaeger

“About Boating Safety” Class is being offered at Lake Lou Yaeger!

Are you interested in learning about boating? Do you need a boater’s education card? The City of Litchfield’s Lake Lou Yaeger, has partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to bring the “About Boating Safely” class to Litchfield, Illinois. The course will be offered twice in 2020. Students will pick from ONE of the following days: Saturday, February 29 OR Saturday, April 25. The course will be held from 9 AM to 5:30 PM at Lake Lou Yaeger’s Milnot Beach House (4932 Beach House Trail).

“About Boating Safely” will cover the following topics: Introduction to Boating, Boating Law, Boat Safety Equipment, Safe Boating, Navigation, Boating Problems, Trailering, Storing, and Protecting Your Boat. This course is a beginning boating class that will give students the knowledge needed to obtain a boat license or safety certification in the State of Illinois and many others. This course satisfies the Illinois requirement for a boating safety education course required for those born after Jan. 1, 1998, which is needed to legally operate a boat. After passing the exam at the end of the course, participants will receive a card and a certificate. Participants do not need to own a boat to take this seminar-based class. Individuals of all skill levels are welcome.

There is a $25 registration fee to cover course materials provided by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch. Pre-registration is required for this course. This program is suited for individuals of all ages, however students must be at least 10 years of age in order to participate.
