Litchfield enjoys a convenient location at the intersection of I-55 and Illinois Rt. 16, halfway between St. Louis, Missouri and Springfield, Illinois.

Commercial air service is available at St. Louis Lambert International Airport and Springfield Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport. The Litchfield Municipal Airport serves private aircraft.

For rail travel, Amtrak serves Carlinville, St. Louis and Springfield. The Carlinville station is not staffed, but is accessible and has restroom facilities and vending machines.
